Welcome to the home of Ladyleigh Westies

We are a small home kennel living in the beautiful Cowichan Valley which is situated between the Sea and the Mts on Southern Vancouver Island

My adventure with West Highlanders began because my husband always wanted a dog "like the small white terrier that used to come and visit while I  was working on restoring the 1962 Jaguar. I used to have to bath him all the time as he used to scratch his back under the car" ( bet the owners loved that!!) So one Saturday morning in 1989 we set off to Cornwall to pick up Duncan and also bought home Victoria, they were named by my homesick husband for the two cities we had lived between on Vancouver Island.

Duncan was everything a Westie should not be on the outside and everything they should be on the inside, In his 161/2 years he taught me something everyday.
Sleep well my lovely boy.

By 1995 I was besotted by the breed and during a visit to them from our home in Canada my wonderful parents gave me Furzeleigh Celtic Magic AKA Lady or "The Bug"

She introduced me to the show world winning Best in Match at her second outing. She seemed to think that was it for the show ring i.e. been there and done that ....and refused to play anymore!

Furzeleigh Tartan Major joined us in 1997, between them they made some lovely babes who play in gardens all over Vancouver Island.

In 2002 Can Ch Hopecharm Steady Under Fire made the long flight to Canada with me, In 2003 Can Ch Hopecharm Ladyleigh flew out with Can Ch Hopecharm Under Fire and so the next chapter started.
We aim for LOVELY INSIDE AND OUT

People ask me why we show our dogs this seemed to say it all:
What Is A Title?

What is a title really? Not just a brag, not just a stepping stone to a higher title, a title is a tribute to the dog that bears it, a way to honour the dog, the ultimate memorial. It will remain in record and memory, for as long as anything in this world can remain. Few humans will do as well or better in that regard. And though the dog itself doesn't know or care that it's achievements have been noted, a title says many things in this world of humans, where such things count. A title says that your dog was intelligent, and adaptable and good-natured. It says that your dog loved you enough to do the things that pleased you, however crazy they may have seemed. And a title says that you loved your dog, that you loved to spend time with it because it was a good dog, that you believed in it enough to give it another chance when it failed, and that in the end, your faith was justified. A title proves that your dog inspired you to that special relationship enjoyed by so few; that in this world of disposable creatures, this dog with a title was greatly loved and loved greatly in return. A title is nothing less than love and respect, given and received, and permanently recorded.
